Talk and Exhibition in Dumfries

On Thursday 9 November at 7 pm Alastair Duncan will give a talk in the Ewart Library, Dumfries, entitled 'Kirkpatrick Fleming in Context'. At the same time, the poster exhibition 'Kirkpatrick Fleming 1930s to 2013. A Changing Village' will go on display in the Library.

Alastair's talk will concentrate on three issues. To what extent does the documented history of Kirkpatrick Fleming in the twentieth century correspond to other studies of rural Scotland? What does the evidence from Kirkpatrick Fleming contribute to recent debates about memory, identity and place?  Does that evidence have something to contribute to studies of language and speech on the English-Scottish border?
